For teachers, informal educators and school districts, our team is ready to work with you and local TV meteorologists (or provide focused training support) to help prepare the latest information on the environment and environmental developments worldwide in easy-to-understand terms with high-quality visuals.Training- A Key to more Effective Environmental CommunicationsProviding environmental content and data products to broadcast meteorologists alone is not enough. Many of the station’s weather staff are untrained in fields outside of meteorology and thus may feel uncomfortable presenting information in other areas or lack the understanding to explain it accurately, while fully highlighting its relevance or significance. The 2004 tsunami event in Asia dramatically illustrated this issue. When the earthquake and tsunami occurred, network and local station anchors and reporters turned to their meteorologist for an explanation. With no background in earth science, many of the meteorologists gave poor, if not inaccurate, explanations. StormCenter Communications has created a training component as part as part of its services to the broadcast community. Broadcasters will then be more likely to use new and exciting environmental products, know where to go in the future, and have access to experts for interviews and explanations when warranted. StormCenter staff and its experts will travel to stations and provide an overview and discussion of topics chosen, with a specific focus on those most relevant to the broadcast region, and supply background materials for further learning. New and exciting environmental products or data will be incorporated into the training materials as is possible. StormCenter and its experts will provide consultation services to each station to answer follow-up questions and to be available as needs arise. In addition, StormCenter will help identify in-house experts that can be made available for interviews or follow-up questions.
