The image on the right taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging
Spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard NASA's Aqua satellite on July 15, 2003 at
21:00 UTC (3:00 PM MDT, 5:00 PM EDT) shows the Bulldog fire burning in south
Utah. Environmental Impacts
- The fire has burned over 28,382 acres so far and is about 10 percent
contained.
- The fire started on July 8, 2003 when sparks from an ATV ignited dry grass
and quickly spread.
- Bulldog Wildfire is burning 17 miles north of Ticaboo, UT in oak, juniper
and pinyon pine.
- Extreme fire behavior was observed yesterday. Spots occurred up to
3/4 mile from main fire. Running crown fire made aggressive runs with flame
lengths in excess of 200 feet. Fire is expected to continue making runs to the
north and to the southeast in pockets of heavy fuel.
- Three residences and one
commercial property are threatened. Four outbuildings were lost over the
weekend.
- Traffic control measures have been implemented on Highways 95 and 276 due
to smoke inversion.
