Environmental Impacts

  • There are three wildfires burning in and around Glacier Nat'l Park: the Wedge Canon fire, Robert fire, and the Trapper Creek Complex fires.

  • The wildfires forced the evacuation of Glacier National Park on Friday, July 25.

  • The Wedge Canon fire has burned 18,850 acres and is only about 5% contained. Extreme fire behavior has been observed. The fire crossed the North Fork River into Glacier National Park on July 25. A total of 29 structures have been lost on this incident.

  • The Robert fire has burned 9,310 acres and is 0% contained. Structure protection is in place for 200 residences and 24 commercial properties. Warmer temperatures, lower humidity and northwest winds forecast Monday are expected to bring increased activity with the Robert fire near the communities of West Glacier and Apgar in Glacier National Park. Fire behavior began to increase Sunday and conditions are expected to continue Monday.

  • The Trapper Creek Complex fires has burned 16,500 acres and is 35% contained. Fire behavior moderated. The Many Glaciers developed area remains evacuated, and a highway into the Park was closed.

  • The Lost Creek wildfire near Blairmore in Alberta, Canada has burned approximately 6,916 acres and continues to burn out of control. As of July 25, five rural residences have been placed on evacuation alert and the several roads are closed. Warm dry conditions and the out-of-control wildfire have resulted in a fire ban being put in place for southern Alberta starting from Noon July 25.
