StormCenter Hosts Senior Executive Field Trip
On September 27, 2011, NOAA Executives visited StormCenter to experience a decision making exercise that highlights the importance of new technology implementation in a small company that aids decision making. It was an excellent opportunity to highlight the relevance and innovation of StormCenter Communications, Inc. combined with our advanced collaborative capabilities within EVCM.
There was a group of 16-17 people with NOAA Group Leader and assistant. After a welcome introduction, the NOAA executives were split into groups and each rotated to stations. The teams enjoyed a tour of StormCenter's facilities including a technical demonstration of NOAA datasets shared during the COP16 meetings in Cancun, Mexico, a demonstration of StudioEarth's® cutting-edge equipment, and a technical demonstration and brief training session of our collaborative geo-browser tool, EVCM.
During these tours, a mock-emergency call came in "deploying" the NOAA executives to different locations in order to respond to a tropical system threatening the east coast of the U.S. Instantly, the StormCenter conference room became the "Situation Room," a team was deployed in a van to a nearby remote location, and demonstration area and StudioEarth® became a place for preparing and giving media briefings!
During this exercise, the executive team members shared their NOAA data products and information through the EVCM collaborative tool from all three locations. The data was combined into a situational awareness briefing from current conditions, forecasts, and concerns. In StudioEarth® title graphics and background were applied and the mock press conference was given by the selected spokesperson on-camera and streamed LIVE for 'Secretary Locke.' The presentation was produced and recorded for the NOAA executives to take home. It was a great success and a rewarding experience for all involved.
